Night Egg Triptych

Night Egg Triptych
Inspired by the amulets placed in niches, inside homes and temples, throughout Thailand. I am drawn to this notion that each object you hold dear has its own small home, its little landing place, its niche. We see a similar concept in Christian art— for instance in reliquaries. Here, I’m using a gilded, opulent triptych form popular in ancient Christian art to hold each Night Egg in a protected space.
The Eggs are a small microcosm, the yolk the most tender and sacred space, where consciousness and creativity live. The night sky outside represents the unknown, chaos, darkness, all that we cannot control, all that we perhaps fear. Within the protected yolk I scrawl reveries, stream-of-consciousness ideas, no planning, no fear or pressure-- just whatever comes to mind, kind of hieroglyphs of the subconscious. I often do this at night when I'm tired but I have some more brain-juice that needs to escape.
